Kitchen 15: by Jennifer E. McClelland Design Co.
Designer: Jennifer E. McClelland
Universal design principals offered guidance for these homeowners who wanted to age in place. Designed and built as their retirement home, this couple sought the expertise from Jennifer E. McClelland Design Co., to design their kitchen and enhance their layout with ease and function. A top priority was an area to showcase their sentimental collections from their past, without taking away the needed storage of the kitchen. This 36” cabinet is placed in the lower peninsula that faces out towards the dining area for all to see. Owner – designer Jennifer E. McClelland assisted with cabinetry, countertop, backsplash, and appliance selections to ensure a classic design.
Aging in Place design influenced a no-curb, walk-in shower that can easily accept a wheel chair or walker. A roomy layout allows for 2 people to use this space simultaneously with two sinks, a large soaking tub, private water closet, and large shower. Rich espresso maple cabinets contrast with the soft shades of grays and brown in the quartz countertops and ceramic tiles. Electrical outlets were placed in the cabinet between the sinks to house small electronics to keep the countertop clean uncluttered.
